The following is the standard scope of an asphalt roof replacement: Removal of existing roofing materials down to the deck. Inspection and preparation of the underlying roof deck. Replacement of any rotted or damaged wood decking in accordance with Section 7 (Plywood /Deck Replacement). Installation of ice and water shield along all eaves (minimum six (6) feet up-slope from the wall line), in valleys (minimum three (3) feet wide), and eighteen (18) to twenty-four (24) inches around all roof penetrations, skylights, walls, and chimneys. Installation of deck tape over all exposed plywood seams. Installation of synthetic underlayment over the remaining exposed decking. Installation of new drip edge along the roof eaves and rake edges, secured with deck tape where applicable. Installation of starter shingles along all roof edges. Installation of new asphalt shingles, secured with ring-shank nails in accordance with the manufacturer's nailing pattern and specifications. Installation of hip and ridge shingles for the final touch. Installation of suitable flashing at all valleys, walls, chimneys, and roof penetrations. Verification of proper attic ventilation in accordance with manufacturer requirements where applicable. Cleanup and removal of all job-related debris from the roof, gutter system, and surrounding property.
